The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, with its 2,009,231 SHU rating, is the second hottest chili pepper in the world. It gets its name from the small tail at the end of the fruit, resembling a scorpion's tail.
Many hot chilies are named after the region they originate from. This pepper is native to the Moruga district of Trinidad. In 2012, it held the title of the world's hottest chili pepper until further experimentation led to the Carolina Reaper surpassing it, with a significantly higher SHU rating. The previous record holder was the Indian Bhut Jolokia.
